ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Based in Washington, DC office
Reports to: Executive Director, NCBA Communications in the Denver/HQ office
General Responsibilities:
Manages media relations to support NCBA policy objectives. Researches and writes for NCBA publications. Supports lobbyists with communications strategies and tactics. Works with NCBA Communications team to ensure seamless and coordinated communications.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develops relationships with media covering agriculture policy and industry related topics.
- Develops proactive media strategy on key policy issues.
- Manages media requests, coordinating response, preparing industry and organization spokespeople, scheduling interviews and conducting follow-up.
- Serves as media spokesperson when appropriate.
- Coordinates media relations functions with consumer media relations team.
- Writes press releases, fact sheets, television scripts, web copy and other communications tools to support lobbying efforts and NCBA Communications.
- Researches and writes magazine stories, incorporating member and policy perspective.
- Reviews/edits communications tools developed by fellow DC staff.
- Staffs media room at Annual and Summer Meetings.
- Captures audio, video, stills of NCBA policy news.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Associate Director, Public Affairs should be a self-directed individual who possesses
excellent writing and communications skills; has five or more years of experience working with media, preferable within government, food or agriculture industry and/or a public relations agency. Preference is given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or advanced in journalism, public relations or communications. Agriculture background a plus.
